| Develop an understanding of the barriers and cultural issues faced by Aboriginal people within the workforce. | |
| Provide an overview of the Company’s Aboriginal Affairs Policy and commitment. |
Generic ACA Program Outline
Session 1 – Historical Perspectives
This session will examine the effect of colonization on Aboriginal people, including past, present and continuing impact.
Session 2 – Aboriginal Kinship System
This session will provide an overview of the Aboriginal Kinship System which governs Aboriginal people and includes association to land, through the totem system.
Session 3 – Communication – Intercultural
This session examines general differences and various forms of communication between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and explores strategies to overcome communication across cultures.
Session 4 – Company Aboriginal Affairs Commitment
This session will examine why Industry engages with Aboriginal people and groups and provide an overview of the Company Indigenous Participation commitments.
Session 5 - Strategies for Working with Aboriginal People
This session will examine the impact of Aboriginal culture in the workplace and discuss strategies to develop better working relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
Summary:
The Generic ACA Workshop has been designed for the general workforce, who works closely with Aboriginal employees on a daily basis. This workshop provides a detailed overview of the history of Aboriginal Australia, Family Relationships, and more importantly, an increased focus on Inter-cultural Communication and Strategies for Working with Aboriginal people.
